The Government of Lagos State is to repeal a law stipulating payment of pension to public office holders such as the former governors and their deputies.
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, who said this during the presentation of 2021 Appropriation Bill to Lagos State House of Assembly on Tuesday, remarked that the objective of the move is to keep cost of governance low.
He stated that an Executive Bill to repeal the law will soon be forwarded to the lawmakers for consideration and passage.
“To keep governance cost low and to signal selflessness in public service, a draft executive bill coming for the repeal of the Public Office Holder (Payment of Pension Law 2007), which provides for payment of pension and other entitlements to former governors and their deputies,” he said.
