Robbery: So-Safe apprehends kingpin, recovers 4 rifles in Ogun

The Ogun State Community, Social Orientation and Safety Corps, also known as So-Safe Corps, after several attempts, arrested a notorious robbery kingpin and recovered four rifles in Ogun.

This is according to a statement issued from the Office of the State Commander of the Corps, Commander (Dr) Soji Ganzallo through the office of the Director of Information and Public Relations of the Corps, Assistant Commander Moruf Yusuf.

It was learnt that around 1000hrs on Wednesday, 12th July 2023, the officers of the corps on routine patrol while acting on information gathered, caught a 32-year-old Mr Obani Desmond, who is a resident of 25, Agunbiade Street, Orija, Abule Iroko while trying to burgle into a building at 2, Ayo Ogunbanwo Street, Abule-Iroko in Ado-Odo Ota Local Government Area.

The suspect was said to have escaped arrest on many occasions but nemesis caught up with him on the day as he tried to hide from being caught at the scene of robbery.

Ganzallo noted that he instructed the So-Safe team that caught the suspected robber led by Divisional Officer SC Akinrele Adetayo to showcase excellent expertise whenever they catch him in his usual act and to make sure he was arrested alive so that a number of heinous acts perpetrated by him would not die with him.

He also revealed that when the suspect saw that the scene at which he was caught might be the end of the road, he speedily confessed that this fateful day, he came to steal gold jewellery in that compound, the reason for his not carrying arms.

Without torture, he promised to show the team where he kept the arms, he uses to perpetrate the crimes he is known for.

Ganzallo then said that before getting to where he kept those arms, his wife, Mrs Simbi Temitope Desmond, has taken three out of the four arms (1 single and 2 double locally made pistols) and kept them in the nearby room, with one (1)12 rounds pistol found in his room. All arms recovered are four with 5 live ammunition, 9 used and 5 live cartridges.

The corps commander also made it known that the suspect confessed to having taken part in a number of deadly attacks both in Ogun and in the Lagos states and he pleaded that the Corps would get the remaining useful story of their successful attacks from one Mr Jeje, whom he said in his custody the AK47 their team use.

Meanwhile, Ganzallo has given the Agbado/Oke Aro/Ibaragun Area Commander of the Corps, ACC Olaiya Akeem a marching order to work with the Nigeria Police Force in the axis to bring the rest culprits to book.

The suspect and the recovered exhibit had been transferred to the Nigeria Police Force, Agbado Divisional Police Headquarters for further investigation and likely prosecution.
