The operatives of the Nigeria Police Force, Lagos Command, have arrested 15 suspected armed robbers and cultists.
Thirteen of the suspects were said to have been arrested at Agunfoye area of Ikorodu.
The state police spokesman, SP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, on Tuesday, said the Police Surveillance team attached to Ikorodu Division of the Command arrested one Taiye Lasisi ‘m’, 20, of Agunfoye, with a locally made revolver pistol.
He stated that after his arrest, a search was extended to other black spots in the area, where 13 other suspected cultists belonging to Aiye Confraternity, were apprehended.
He said: “On 28/12/2020 at about 4am, while responding to a distress call from Agunfoye area of Ikorodu, the Police Surveillance team attached to Ikorodu Division of the Command arrested one Taiye Lasisi ‘m’, 20, of Agunfoye, with a locally made Revolver pistol.
“After his arrest, a search was extended to other black spots in the area where 13 (thirteen) other suspected cultists belonging to Aiye Confraternity were arrested.”
He said the suspects who have been arrested are Segun Ariyo, aka Zangalo, who was once arrested and transferred to the disbanded SARS in Lagos; Kazeem Akinpelu ‘m’; Ibrahim Oni ‘m’; Tobi Awoyefa ‘m’; Yusuf Okunlowo ‘m’; Oyesanya Damola’m’; Bola Hassan ‘m’; Toheeb Adesina ‘m’; Hassan Ashiru ‘m’.
Others are Onafowokan Michael ‘m’; Folahan Adeola ‘f’; Damilola Adeola ‘f’ , and (13) Julius Ihara ‘m’.
“Exhibits recovered from the suspects are (1) eight I-phones, (2) two Techno phones (3), one Nokia phone (4), three bags (5), one black belt (6), one white handkerchief containing four lighters (9), one black Nylon containing some local charms, (10), some expended and live ammunition (11), two black 25 litre kegs containing skuchies.
Adejobi added that the police operatives in Akodo Division, on 28th December, around 4am, arrested one suspected cultist, Lekan Razak, m, 20, while attempting to rob at No. 25, Ibomide Street, Ibeju Lekki, Lagos.
He stated that the suspect, who has confessed to be a member of Eiye Confraternity, was arrested with a locally-made pistol with some live cartridges.
According to him, the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State, Hakeem Odumosu, has ordered for the transfer of the suspects to the State CID Panti, Yaba for discreet investigation.
The CP also reiterated his zero tolerance for cultism and other crimes in the state.
