Police operatives under ‘Operation Harmony’ of the Kwara State Police Command have arrested one Kehinde John Moses, who was travelling with a fresh human head and two hands.
A statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, SP Ajayi Okasanmi on Tuesday, noted that the 24-year-old suspect was arrested around 6.30 am on Ajase Ipo/Ilorin Road by the team during a stop-and-search duty.
The PPRO said the operatives flagged down a commercial bus, “and in the process of searching a bag, one man took to his heels while his partner was held. The police discovered a fresh-severed head and the hands of a young man when the police searched the bag.
“In the course of interrogation, he confessed to have killed the victim, one Mohammed, in Ajase Ipo with his fleeing partner, for ritual purposes.”
Okasanmi added that the startling discovery made the state Commissioner of Police, Mohammed Lawal Bagega, direct the homicide section of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) to investigate the case and arrest anyone connected to the crime.
The suspect was said to have taken a team of investigators to the spot where the body of the ritual victim was dumped, from where it was recovered and deposited in the mortuary of a hospital for autopsy.
Okasanmi noted that the police commissioner used the matter to warn criminals to vacate the state, as the command had the capacity to deploy all legal means to deal with them, to ensure peaceful lives for Kwara people.
“Investigation into the case is ongoing, the suspect will be charged as soon as it is concluded,” the PPRO said.
