The Akwa Ibom State Police has given out N49 million as welfare to 123 families of officers.
The welfare which comes under Group Life Assurance Cheques and Personal accident scheme cheques were given to the next-of-kin of the deceased and some serving officers involved in accidents while performing their lawful duties.
Police Public Relations Officer, SP Odiko Macdon said the presentations were made by the Commissioner of Police, Olatoye Durosinmi on behalf of the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun.
“The pains associated with the loss of loved ones cannot be compared to the value of the cheques but it was the IGP’s way of sharing in their pains and ameliorating their hardship.
“The CP urged them to use the funds wisely while thanking the IGP for the gesture which he noted will encourage serving Officers to put in their best,” Macdon stated in a press release on Sunday in Uyo.
