Iniabasi Friday, Uyo
The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Akwa Ibom State has warned the All Progressives Congress (APC) against verbally attacking Governor Udom Emmanuel.
The State Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Mr Borono Bassey said the party would no longer put up with any denigrating remarks on the governor and threatened to institute legal actions should such continue.
A statement signed by Bassey and made available to journalists on Thursday in Uyo in response to an APC statement maligning Emmanuel for speaking against the SSA to the President on Niger Delta Affairs, Senator Ita Enang, the PDP described the threat to withdraw all courtesies to the governor as empty.
According to the party, APC has never been courteous to the office of the Governor as shown by several acts of disrespects to the governor in the past, noting that Akwa Ibom people were used to their habitual ‘noisemaking’ antics.
The PDP attributed the recent APC statement to the non-existing political structures that would earn the party a defeat in the forthcoming local government election, adding that the APC will always be defeated during elections in the state.
“Although the PDP has continued to land several slaps by way of electoral defeats on the face of the APC in Akwa Ibom, we will not tolerate any form of denigrating murmurs on the person of the Governor of Akwa Ibom State. Such actions will be visited with grave legal steps.
“By way of responding to their empty threat to withdraw all courtesies they had hitherto attached to Governor Udom Emmanuel’s office, we want to quickly remind the APC that they have never demonstrated any iota of courtesy for the office of the Governor.
“Is the APC, who held the press conference different from the same APC that held a parallel state thanksgiving, something that has never happened? Or is this APC different from the APC that had blocked the Wellington Bassey way entrance to Government House under the pretext of commissioning a campaign organisation? What a classic case of amnesia!
“We want to remind the APC that Akwa Ibom people had got used to their timetable for habitual noisemaking, which comes once every four years during every governorship election season.
“For the purpose of proper information, we announce to them that the political steams they may have noticed from the land of political banishment, which they exist are a product of the forthcoming Local Government election. Their non-existent political structures would earn them a beating at this kind of election should they make effort to throw their torn hat into the ring.
“Although the PDP has continued to land several slaps by way of electoral defeats on the face of the APC in Akwa Ibom state, we will not tolerate any form of denigrating murmurs on the person of the Executive Governor of Akwa Ibom State. Such actions will be visited with grave legal steps,” the statement said.
