Akpan Umoh, Uyo
The Akwa Ibom State Governor, Mr Umo Eno, has urged leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) across the 368 wards in the state to ensure unity among members and integrate returnees from other parties.
Eno was speaking at his home, Ibiakpan – Obotim Ward II centre, on Saturday where he attended the state-wide PDP ward meeting.
He said that the purpose of the ward meetings was to allow the party leadership to receive the mass of people who have thronged back to the party lately and to reinforce the party’s support base.
Eno reassured all party faithful and the State at large that his administration would continually improve on infrastructure development to justify the people’s confidence in the party.
He noted that Akwa Ibom is proudly a PDP State, stressing that under the umbrella, the State and its people have improved with steady and appreciable progress.
The governor said the thousands of returnees were indicative of the fact that they were convinced of the direction and sincerity of the PDP-led government in the State.
“It has been a good outing. We intend to continue to build the party at the grassroots, to continue to work for our state and to continue to support our President at the centre.
“We have finished elections and people want to come back. I believe they have seen that the government is responsible and has capacity and they are convinced and are coming back on their own volition, without being pushed.
“As a good father and a responsible party, we have to open our doors, because Akwa Ibom is a PDP State and from time, it has always been.
“So, we need to increase our membership, continue to show capacity and also get feedback from those at the base of the party,” Eno said.
Eno reiterated his commitment to serving the people of the state and supporting the Tinubu-led government at the centre.
Earlier the Chairman of Ibiakpan – Obotim Ward II, Mr Ukpong Michael, expressed the satisfaction of the party at the ward level with the performance of the Governor in less than one year.
