The suspension of Kolapo Alimi, a two-time commissioner and member of The Osun Progressives (TOP), a group within the All Progressives (APC), has been overruled and declared null and void by the APC State Caretaker Committee.
The notice of the nullification was contained in a statement signed by Adegoke Ogunsola, APC State Legal Adviser on Saturday in Osogbo, the state capital.
In the press release titled, “Re: suspension of Barrister Kolapo Maruf Alimi From All Progressives Congress (APC)”, the legal adviser stated that the party observed that the procedure laid down in Article 21 of the APC Constitution, which regulates the decision of the party to suspend its members found guilty of misconduct and anti-party activities, was not strictly followed by the APC Caretaker Committee at Ward 09 (Elerin C) of Irepodun Local Government Area of the state in the suspension.
The press release also stated that, “having examined the procedure adopted by the APC Caretaker Committee at Ward 09 (Elerin C) of Irepodun local government area of Osun State in suspending Barrister Kolapo Maruf Alimi and in consultation with other members of the State Caretaker Committee of the APC, Osun State Chapter, thereby declare the said procedure most irregular, defective and devoid of the required principle of law for its sustainability.
“Consequently, the said suspension of Barrister Kolapo Maruf Alimi from the APC Caretaker Committee at Ward 09 (Elerin C) of Irepodun local government area of Osun State could not be ratified by the APC State Caretaker Committee and as a result, the caretaker committee of the APC at Ward 09 (Elerin C) of Irepodun local government area of Osun State is hereby overruled and the suspension of Barrister Kolapo Maruf Alimi is hereby nullified and declared null and void and of no effect whatsoever.”
Barrister Kolapo Alimi, a legislative aide to Femi Gbajabiamila, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, was Friday 16th of June, 2021 suspended from the APC by the Caretaker Committee of his ward.
The former Osun Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affair had also described his suspension from the party as a ruse.
