Clement Jimbo, an All Progressives Congress (APC) chief in Akwa Ibom State and former Presidential Candidate during the 2019 General Election on the platform of the Social Democratic Party, on Monday said that it is only fraudulent politicians that will oppose direct primaries for 2023 elections.
According to him, the law which has been made by the National Assembly would upset politicians who were enjoying the indirect process.
The 42-year-old senate aspirant said this when he paid familiarisation visit to Ntoedino ward 4 in Abama village, Obot Akara Local Government Area on Monday.
Jimbo, who said he would be aspiring for Akwa Ibom North West Senatorial District Seat at the National Assembly on the platform of APC, wondered why some politicians would kick against direct primaries which would enable all party members to make their choice on who to contest for a particular office.
“The direct primaries is a welcome and miraculous development in the political space of Nigerian politics due to its numerous benefits to all party men and women.
“I strongly commended the National Assembly for this great feat despite the fact of some political elements trying to block it from seeing the light of the day.
“It is my happiness that this process will give all party men and women a fair ground to elect anybody they want to contest for a particular office without being manipulated as it were in the case of indirect primaries,” Jimbo said.
He expressed displeasure over the poor living condition of rural people in the area, especially bad road network and promised to alleviate the suffering of the rural people.
Jimbo assured the people of quality lifestyle with good road network if elected into office come 2023 general elections.
The Village Head of Abama, Chief Idorenyin Udoma, commended the APC stalwart for finding time to visit and to witness the state of the people in the community.
Udoma urged the older politicians to have rethink by giving the younger ones the chance to also showcase their God-given talent in the political office for the development of the nation.
