Ogun police nab two women for allegedly stealing baby

The Ogun State Police Command has arrested two women for allegedly stealing a baby.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, said the two women were arrested on 25 July 2022.

He said the suspect Chinyere Nwozu, 53-year-old, was seen with the crying one-week-old baby around 9 am.

According to him, as the woman could not breastfeed the crying baby as a mother, members of the public became suspicious and immediately alerted the police at Sango Ota divisional headquarters.

He added: “Upon the information, the DPO of Sango Ota, SP Dahiru Saleh, detailed his detectives to the scene where the woman was promptly arrested.”

Speaking on Saturday, Oyeyemi said the arrested Nwozu had confessed during interrogation not being the biological mother of the child.

The woman was said to have told the police that she bought the child somewhere in the Agege area of Lagos State through one Ngozi Akaeme at N500,000.

He said upon her confession, detectives went after the said Ngozi Akaeme and her arrested.

Akaeme reportedly told the police that she was an accomplice to Chinyere Nwozu, adding that “she actually negotiated with the biological mother of the baby who agreed to sell the baby.”

Oyeyemi said all attempts to sway Akaeme to accompany the cops to locate the whereabouts of the biological mother of the baby, was futile.

He added that the Commissioner of Police, CP Lanre Bankole, has directed that the two suspects should be transferred to the State CIID for further investigation and possible prosecution.
