Ogun police nab five for allegedly killing man 25

Police operatives in Ogun State on Sunday arrested five cultists for allegedly killing a 25-year-old man, who had been identified simply as Sunday.

It was learnt that the suspects: Afeez Olapade, aka Sabiko, 22; Idowu Adebayo, 18; Oduwaye Seyi,  aka Owo aje, 22; Fatai Olude, 22, and Alabi Segun 22, had been terorrising the Ifo town.

The Police Public Relations Officer in Ogun State, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, said the suspects were arrested following a distress call received by the DPO, Ifo Division that the cultists were on rampage around Ifo Market, attacking people with dangerous weapons and dispossessing innocent citizens of their valuables.

According to him, the DPO, CSP Adeniyi Adekunle, quickly mobilised his men and moved to the area.

He said: “On getting there, they met a 25-year-old, who was later identified simply as Sunday in the pool of his own blood following several matchet injury on his body.

“The policemen chased and got the five suspects arrested within the area.

“The victim was taken to the general hospital where he was confirmed dead.”

He stated that among one Muhammed a truck driver was injured while one Olalekan Alade was dispossessed of his phone by the hoodlums, adding that the hoodlums snatched five other different phones from their owners, but were recovered.

He stated that the Commissioner of Police in the state, Edward Awolowo Ajogun has ordered the transfer of the suspects to State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for discreet investigation.

According to him, the CP also directed that the fleeing members of gang must be hunted for and brought to book within the shortest possible time. The CP, however, warned that those who think that police has abandoned their duty as a result of recent protest should better have a rethink as the command is determined more than ever before to wage war against crime and criminality anywhere in the state.
