The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has warned the over 2,200 corps members posted to Akwa Ibom State to be cautious of attempts to promote hate on social media which could further Nigeria’s disintegration.
The Director-General of the corps, Brig. -Gen. Shuaibu Ibrahim said this during the swearing-in ceremony of 20211 Batch ‘C’ Corps members at NYSC Orientation Camp, Ikot Itie Udung on Tuesday.
Ibrahim, who was represented by the State Coordinator of NYSC, Mrs Chinyere Ekwe, also warned the corps members to desist from drug abuse, cultism, and other social vices.
“Let me use this opportunity to caution you against indulgence in cultism, drug abuse and other social vices.
“I also urge you to use social media only for the promotion of unity and other positive purposes rather than rumour peddling and the promotion of hatred.
“At all times, you must be security conscious and avoid putting yourselves in harm’s way,” Ibrahim said.
He urged the corps members to ensure that they get themselves vaccinated in line with the provision of the Federal Government in order not to affect them in their places of primary assignment.
Ibrahim who declared the ceremony opened, admonished the corps members to demonstrate a high level of discipline, adding that the regimented nature of the camp was intended to instil discipline and build resilience.
The state coordinator said that out of the 2, 200 corps members deployed to the state, 1400 were female and 800 were male.
