The National Youths Service Corps, NYSC, has deployed 1,519 (Batch ‘B’ Stream 1) corps members to serve in Akwa Ibom.
The corps coordinator in the state, Mrs Chinyere Ekwe, said this on Monday during the swearing-in of the corps members at the Permanent Orientation Camp, Ikot Itie Udung in Nsit Atai Local Government.
Ekwe urged the corps members to key into the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme fashioned toward providing skills for to their self-reliance.
The state coordinator said that the SAED programme was a child of necessity with the intention to make them self-reliant and employers of labour.
She asked the corps members to conform to the provisions of the regimented environment in camp by participating in all activities lined up during the orientation exercise.
“I am pleased to announce that at the close of registration 12 midnight Sunday August 1, 2021, a total of 1, 519 corps members were registered.
“This comprised 669 male and 850 female. They have all acclimatised and are blending in their interaction with one another.
“The skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) Programme is a child of necessity boned by the scheme for the share love she has for her corps participants. It is fashioned towards providing skills for all corps members,” Ekwe said.
The state coordinator commended the State Government for the support in infrastructure development in the orientation camp.
Our Correspondent reports that a minute silence was observed in honour of the five prospective corps members who lost their lives on their way to Katsina orientation camp.
The corps members were administered the oath of national service and allegiance by the Chief Judge of Akwa Ibom, Justice Ekaette Obot, who was represented by Justice Bennet Ilaumo.
