The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Akwa Ibom Command says it has deployed 1, 000 personnel to ensure hitch free Easter celebration in the state.
The State Commandant, Mr Abidemi Majekodunmi, said this in a statement issued in Uyo on Wednesday.
Majekodunmi said that personnel would be deployed to strategic locations across the state to protect lives and critical government infrastructure.
“To achieve a hitch free Easter celebrations, the Akwa Ibom State Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps has deployed 1, 000 to beef up security in the state all through the Easter celebrations and beyond.
“The deployment is a proactive measure to ensure that the peace enjoyed in the state is sustained all through the Easter festivities.
“Personnel were drawn from the Armed squad, Agro Ranger, Counter Terrorism, Special female squad, Anti-vandal units and the department of Intelligence operations.
“The personnel amongst other things are to work towards prevention of crimes and crowd control in strategic places of activities within the state like churches, parks, malls and recreational centres,” Majekodunmi said.
Majekodunmi said the patrol teams have been constituted to patrol various identified hotspots within the state.
The commandant directed all Area Commanders, Divisional Officers and Heads of Tactical Squads to ensure effective policing of their immediate environment, paying attention to public places, worship centres and institutions.
He admonished personnel to display utmost professionalism in the discharge of their duties, warning that anyone found wanting would be decisively dealt with.
Majekodunmi wishes the good people of Akwa Ibom a joyous Easter celebration and sues for tolerance, forgiveness and peaceful coexistence amongst all Nigerians resident in the state.
