Four naval ratings have allegedly attacked an anti-robbery police patrol team in the Satellite Town area of Lagos State and stabbed an Assistant Superintendent of Police, Abion Hezikel, to death on Saturday, December 3, 2022.
Police sources told LIB on Sunday that the four naval ratings were riding on a motorbike when they accosted a team of police officers on anti-robbery patrol within the Oluti area of Satellite town.
It was, however, not clear what led to their disagreement. The naval ratings, who have been identified as S/NO. 20507 Onyekachi Egwumian, 27, S/NO. 16933 Ebube Growth, 28, and two others were said to be currently at large after attacking the patrol team.
They were said to have stabbed ASP Hezikel in his chest with a jackknife as well as injured three others who tried to mediate during the disagreement.
The Divisional Police Officer for Satellite Town was immediately alerted and he mobilized for the stabbed officer and the three others, who were rushed to Adeyemi Private Hospital in Satellite Town where the officer was confirmed dead.
The other injured persons were said to be treated and discharged.
Police sources say two suspects have been arrested in connection with the incident and their motorcycles recovered. The military authorities have been contacted while the corpse has been deposited at the IDH morgue Yaba.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Lagos State Command, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, could not be reached for comments as he neither picked up calls made on his telephone nor responded to an SMS chat with our correspondent.
