A commercial motorcyclist (usually known as Okada man) hit and broke a policeman’s leg who tried to arrest him on the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) corridor a few yards before Benson Bus Stop inwards Ikorodu, Lagos State.

Onlookers who saw the policeman writhing in pain after he managed to leap to the sidewalk, said the government was not serious for not banning motorcycles along the BRT corridor outright; while some cursed the motorcyclist for being heartless for breaking the policeman’s leg.

One of the eyewitnesses, Patience Chukwudi, said it was sad that people did not take notice of the motorcyclist before he escaped.

She said: “Just imagine how a motorcycle rider could take the law into his hand by plying BRT lane. When the policeman tried to stop him, it seemed as if he has already had the policeman in mind as he veered his motorcycle to the officer’s side, hit him hard and escaped.”

Another eyewitness, Musa, said policemen are troublesome. He added that the policeman deserved what he got.

He said, “Them like trouble okada people. I don’t know what okada people do them, even if you give them money, they still trouble you. I’m happy for this, so that e ko know not everybody like them.”

*The bus in the middle, where his colleague were, was the one that took him away from the scene of the accident.

Another eyewitness said other policemen on a small bus drove to the place and took their injured colleague away.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Lagos State Command, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, said he would work on the story.

He said, “I will work on the story.”
