A disturbing view of a 27-year-old businessman, Emmanuel Chukwuma Igwe, hacking his baby mama, Porcia Achonu, with a machete over food in Imo State, has drawn the ire of Nigerians as many have expressed divergent views.
Porcia, who cleverly laid on the floor as she was being hacked with the machete as though dead for the man to leave her alone, told the story herself.
She said the incident happened on Saturday, January 2 around 1am, shortly after returning from a trip to the village.
“My baby daddy’s younger sister served him food and I asked her about mine. She eyed me and hissed. So, I stood up from where I was and went to her room to collect a piece of chicken, she grabbed the chicken from me and asked me if I was mad.
“So, we started fighting and my baby daddy came in and descended on me. He beat me up so badly that his father came out and was holding me. They locked me inside the house and said I wouldn’t go anywhere. Even when my brother came, they refused to let him in.
“Later, my baby daddy asked his father to open the gate so he can leave, but instead, he went to his car and brought out a cutlass which he used to chop me repeatedly in the presence of his father. At a point, I pretended as if I were dead so he could leave me alone. He fell for it and that was when he drove off in his car.
“He’s currently on the run, but his father has been arrested,” Porcia narrated the ugly incident.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Imo State Command, Orlando Ikeokwu, said he had yet to get any report on the incident.
He said: “I have not received any report of such; try and find out the area where it happened and get back to me to ascertain the authenticity of the report, so that I can give an authoritative report on it.”
A respondent, Rukayat Abdulkarim, said: “Goodness! Just because you have a child for him doesn’t mean he must marry you. I have been telling some ladies this they won’t hear ko they don’t understand me I don’t know?
“A man that will value you, you will know, not until you get pregnant for him. Even if you do for the first time ko first mistake , his reactions and that of his family is enough to make you understand your stands in their lives, but no some of you will just want to kill yourselves and bring pain to your own family… na wa oo… shebi you have seen what you are looking for there? Thank God you did not die their haba!
Matthew Edeche: This is way too harsh.. If you can’t tolerate women’s misdemeanour/nuisances, please don’t marry them… Maturity is not in age but in tolerance.. there is no bravery in beating a woman but rather shows how weak you are in resilience..
Best solution is to leave the scene.. Walk away for the anger to subside..
