The National President of the Association of Ex-Local Government Chairmen of Nigeria (ASELGON), Hon. Albert Asipa, has urged members of the association to live above board as Nigerians are anxiously awaiting what they can offer on local government autonomy.
Asipa said this while inaugurating the six zonal Vice Presidents in Abuja, on Monday.
According to the president, the association is now in touch with the Governors’ Forum to submit a proposal on how the governors will benefit from local government autonomy.
This was contained in a statement issued by the National Secretary of ASELGON, Hon Sahabo Aliyu Gurin, and made available to journalists on Thursday.
Asikpa noted that the association will not engage the governors in media war or public attack but through dialogue.
“We are trying to bring all the relevant stakeholders together before the current National Assembly constitutes another ad hoc Committee on Constitution Review,” Asipa said.
The National President added that the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) and the Association of Local Government Chairmen (ALGON) would be working along with the state governors at the moment.
Asipa, however, appealed to the zonal vice presidents to see their position as a call to serve and to work in tandem with the constitution of the association.
The six vice presidents are Hon. Yusuff Manu (North East); Hon Abiodun Mafe (South West); Hon Jeff Ogbu (South East); Hon. Anwalu Murjibur (North West); Hon. Freddy Ichegbo (South South), and Hon Garba Adeniyi (North Central).
