Lawan inaugurates multipurpose complex, asks Emmanuel to join APC

The Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, on Saturday inaugurated Senator Albert Akpan’s multipurpose facility at Ifa Ikot Akpan community in Uyo and urged Governor Udom Emmanuel to join the ruling APC.

Lawan in his remarks during Akpan’s Thanksgiving Service and Inauguration of Sports Facility in Uyo which sits on 1.5 hectares of land.

The Senate President said he was proud of Sen. Akpan, representing Akwa Ibom North East in the red chamber, for bringing development to his Senatorial District.

He said that the complex, which is not for sports alone but also has an educational facility like an ICT unit to train youths on computer applications.

Our correspondent reports that the multipurpose recreational centre has a 1,500 capacity event hall, medical centre, a standard football pitch, lawn tennis and basketball courts, skills acquisition centre, ICT centre as well as children playground.

“We are here to thank God for Sen. Akpan for what he has done today, this multipurpose facility, which is not only for sports but also an educational facility.

“This facility shows that members of the National Assembly take care of their constituents first because they voted him, and we are proud of the three Senators from this state.

“Akpan has done something that remain indelible in my mind. He never cares about political parties, but he cares about the development of the country,” Lawan said.

Lawan, who commended Gov. Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom developmental strides for the state, urged him to join the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) party in the country.

“Even though we are not on the same political platform, we are waiting for you to come and work with us. You are a champion, we are not ashamed to say come and work with us,” he said.

Earlier in his remarks, Emmanuel said he was proud of Akpan’s performance for the enablement God has granted him to build the multipurpose facility, especially the ICT unit.

Emmanuel called on the people to make good proper use of the facility for their self-development.

He warned against abuse of the facility as it has been dedicated to the Almighty God.

“I thanked God for today, it could have been a different story, we are proud of our brother Sen. Bassey Akpan for want God has used him to do,” he said.

Akpan in his remarks said that there is nothing like coming out to thank God in the congregation especially if a man found favour from God.

Akpan, who is member of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP)said that he is one of those God had blessed.
