Kwara PDP publicity secretary dies at 47, Saraki, NUJ mourn

The death of the Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Kwara State, Tunde Ashaolu has been reported.

DAILY POST gathered that Ashaolu, who celebrated his 47th birthday on Saturday with the former Senate President, Dr Abubakar Bukola Saraki, slumped and died on Sunday evening.

Dr Saraki, in a condolence message, described the demise of Ashaolu as devastating.

In the message from Saraki’s media officer in Abuja, Olu Onemola, the former senate president, expressed shock over the sudden death of Ashaolu.

“Since we heard the news, my family, our friends and our entire political structure across the nation have been shocked and heartbroken about the passing of Mr Tunde Ashaolu, the publicity secretary of Kwara State PDP, whose demise occurred on Sunday evening.

“Just on Saturday, while celebrating the 50th birthday of one of our political associates, who is Tunde’s birthday mate, I told Tunde, you are 47 now, don’t worry when you get to 50, we will all still be here to celebrate you.

“Now, Tunde, our ‘one-man army’ is gone,” Saraki grieved.

He said in everything that he did, Tunde was exemplary. He was committed to his work, courageous with his words and press statements and a helping hand to everyone around him.

In its own condolence message signed by the Chairman and Secretary, Abdulhakeem Garba and Kayode Abdulazeez respectively, in Ilorin, the NUJ Correspondents Chapel in the state, sympathised with the family, PDP and entire Kwarans over Ashaolu’s demise.

The chapel described him as “a media personality, a man of the people who increased the media presence of his party in the state and Nigeria in just short period he manned the position.”

The chapel asked God to forgive and grant him eternal rest and give his family the PDP the fortitude to bear the loss.
