Kogi police detain senior officer, three junior colleagues for extorting N25,000 from traveller

The Kogi State Police Command has identified an Assistant Superintendent of Police and three policemen for allegedly extorting N25,000 from a traveller and physically assaulting another.

The four men are said to be detained by the Kogi State Criminal Investigations Department.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP William Ovye Aya, said the affected police officer and men are ASP Isah Barnabas; Inspector Ifediegwu Godwin; Sgt. Emmanuel Ochima, and CPL. Umameh Mathias.

Aya in a statement on Sunday added that the Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) has been issued an official query while the three other junior colleagues were undergoing orderly room trial (Police internal disciplinary actions).

The PPRO stated that the Commissioner of Police, Kogi State Police Command, Idrisu Dauda Dabban, was angry at the action of his men.

He noted that the CP had noted that the Command is doing its best to establish contact with the victims.

He urged the victims to reach out to the command through 08107899269. The police command assured that any of the officers found wanting in the investigations would be dealt with accordingly.
