The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared the Young Progressives Party (YPP) candidate, Emmanuel Ukpong-udo as the winner of the Ikono/Ini Federal Constituency election in Akwa Ibom State.

INEC’s Returning officer, Patrick Aderorho, who made the declaration on Friday at the constituency collation office said Ukpong-udo scored 19, 926 votes to defeat the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Dr Glory Edet, who had 15,765 votes.

The announcement puts an end to speculations as to the winner of the supplementary elections held in 17 Units of the constituency on April 15, following the violence that marred the February 25th elections in Itak, Ikono local government area and other areas.

Responding to the announcement, Ukpong-udo who dedicated the victory to God and the people of the constituency, attributed the victory to the grace of God upon his life and the faith the people had in him.

He pledged to keep the promise of service to the interest of the constituency above everything else.
