The Inspector General of Police, Usman Baba Alkali, has received the report of the Special Investigation Panel (SIP), set up to investigate the indictment of the suspended Head of the Police Intelligence Response Team (IRT), DCP Abba Kyari, by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).
A statement signed by Force Police Public Relations Officer, CP Frank Mba, noted that the IGP received the report on Thursday, August 26, 2021.
According to Mba, the report was submitted by DIG Joseph Egbunike, the Chairman of the Special Investigation Panel, at the Force Headquarters, Abuja.
The FPRO said that DIG Egbunike, while presenting the report to the IGP, expressed his gratitude for the level of confidence reposed in him as well as members of the team who were chosen specifically for the task.
The statement read in part: “The DIG noted that the Panel commenced investigations immediately it was inaugurated on August 2, 2021 and the report submitted is an outcome of a painstaking, transparent and exhaustive investigative process.
“He further revealed that the report presented contained the case file of the probe, evidence and findings as well as testimonies from DCP Abba Kyari and other persons and groups linked to the matter.
“Reacting while receiving the report, the IGP commended the Panel for a job well done. He stated that the essence of the probe was to carry out discrete investigations into the allegation levied against the Officer to enable the Force leadership to be appropriately guided in its decision-making processes.
“According to the Police boss, a careful and expeditious review of the recommendations would be undertaken by the Force Management Team and thereafter forwarded to appropriate quarters for necessary action,” the statement concludes.
