The Director-General, National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brig.-Gen Shuaibu Ibrahim, has urged corps members deployed to Akwa Ibom State to be security conscious and shun all forms of criminalities.

Ibrahim said this during the swearing-in ceremony of the 2021 Batch ‘C’ Stream 1 corps members at the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Orientation Camp, Ikot Itie Udung in Nsit Atai LGA on Tuesday.

The DG, who spoke through the Akwa Ibom State Coordinator of NYSC, Mrs Chinyere Ekwe, advised the corps members to use social media as a tool for social integration, unity, and peace.

He urged the corps members to develop a passion for entrepreneurship by leveraging on the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) to equip themselves to become employers of labour.

“I urge you to use social media only for the promotion of unity and other positive purposes rather than rumour peddling and the promotion of hatred.

“It is no longer news that white-collar jobs are hard to come by. For this reason, the empowerment of corps members for self-employment and wealth creation has been a major area of focus for the scheme.

“I am happy to inform you that many of your predecessors, who embraced vocational and entrepreneurial training on the SAED platform are now successful business owners,” he said.

The Chief Judge of Akwa Ibom, Justice Ekaette Obot, while administering the oath of allegiance on corps members warned them to avoid joining dubious persons to do what was morally unacceptable.

“Live right, live a life that is free from drugs, crime and hatred which cannot move the country forward as a nation.

“Do not join others to do bad things because God has a way of compensating the bad ones,” Obot said.

Our correspondent reports that a total of 1, 482 corps members were deployed to the state, comprising 718 males and 764 females.
