The South-South Presidency 2023 Advocacy Group has said that they will partner the media to achieve the group objectives of producing Nigeria’s next president from South-South come 2023.

This was contained in a communique issued by the group at the end of their meeting in Uyo and made available to newsmen on Sunday.

The communique was jointly signed by their Protem Chairman, Chief Diekivie Ikiogha, Mr Ini Udonwa, representing Akwa Ibom, Dr Didi Opiuyo, representing Rivers, Chief AO Oputa, representing Bayelsa, Mr Okon Ita, representing Cross River, Mr Oyemah-Iwe Jahswill, representing Delta and Dr Uwamose Amadasun, representing Edo.

The group urged people of the South-South geopolitical zone not to accept or aspire for vice president and national chairman of any political party in the country.

“The group is committed to advocating for a President of South-South extraction come 2023. The Group will engage and work with the media to achieve its objectives.

“The group accepts and stands by the position of leaders of the Southern and Middle Belt that no South-South person aspires to or accepts to become Vice Presidential candidate or Chairman of any political party in the country.

“The group will reach out to and engage all the States of the Federation as well as ethnic nationalities, to look into this project, the communique added.

The group, however, urged the Federal Government to inaugurate the Board of Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) to enable it achieve the objectives and purpose for which it was established.

On insecurity in the country, the group asked the President, National Assembly, Security Agencies, Traditional and Religious leaders and all Nigerians to step up efforts in addressing issues that have caused and ignited the current situation in order to secure the country.

The group in its communique advised the National Assembly to create a platform which would enable all Nigerians an opportunity to give themselves a people’s constitution that will allow for true federalism.
