Lagos East senatorial bye-election candidate of the People’s Democratic Party, Babatunde Gbadamosi, has cast his vote in the ongoing election.
Gbadamosi voted around 9:40am on Saturday at polling unit 014, Isele.
According to him, he got reports of violence in some parts of the state and accused the All Progressives Congress of being the brains behind the violence.
He said: “There are some disturbances in some parts of Ikorodu by the other side. They believe that violence and rigging will earn them victory. It is sad.”
The PDP candidate lamented lateness in the commencement of voting, noting that INEC officials began the process around 9:22am instead of 8:00am.
Gbadamosi stated that he was worried about the outcome of the election, giving the history of election rigging in Nigeria and Lagos.
He, however, called on residents to vote to end the problems in the area.
He added: “Come out and vote to end violence, hunger and oppression. We are all traumatised and we cannot continue to use second-hand products.”
Gbadamosi’s major contender for the seat is the former MD/CEO of Polaris Bank, Tokunbo Abiru of the APC.
The Lagos East senatorial seat became vacant following the death of Senator Bayo Osinowo (APC).
