FRSC deploys 670 personnel for Eid-el-Kabir in Akwa Ibom

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) says it will deploy 670 personnel across Akwa-Ibom State in preparation for the forthcoming Eid-el-Kabir celebration to enhance safety on the roads.

Our correspondent reports that of the 670 personnel, 408 will be regular Marshals while 226 will be special Corp Marshals.

The FRSC Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed disclosed this to newsmen in Uyo on Friday, while speaking on the agency’s preparation for the celebration.

Mohammed represented by the Akwa Ibom State Sector Commander, Lasisi Ogundele, stated that the command will put personnel and equipment in place to cope with the increase in traffic during the period.

He warned against overloading and other deadly behaviours along the highways, adding that offenders caught shall face immediate trial by the mobile courts which will be stationed along the road.

“It has become a practice for us at the Federal Road Safety Commission to always acquaint the public with our level of preparedness for festivities just like the Eid-el-Kabir celebrations.

“We have deployed 408 regular Marshals and 226 Special Marshals in Akwa Ibom to provide safety during the Eid-el-Kabir celebrations.

“Over 743 patrol vehicles, 185 administrative vehicles, 92 ambulances, 23 tow trucks and 144 motorbikes are being deployed as part of the patrol logistics.

“Furthermore, reflective jackets, traffic cones, tyre pressure gauges, several extricating machines and digital breathalyzers are part of the tools set aside for special operations.

“Added to the above is a total of 23 Help Areas mobilised to ensure prompt removal of obstructions, and rescue operations during the period,” he added.

The Corps Marshal urged drivers to imbibe the culture of courtesy, civility and consideration for other road users.

He expressed optimism that with the massive deployment of personnel and logistics, the agency is confident of the successful Eid-el-Kabir celebration in Akwa Ibom.
