Four persons reportedly died from a collapsed 3-storey building at Oye Sonuga Street, opposite Oye roundabout on Isolo Road, Mushin, Lagos State.
Part of the building was said to be used for nightclubs while the others for residential purposes, according to the National National Emergency Management Agency’s coordinator for the Southwest, Ibrahim Farinloye.
It was gathered that the building had shown signs of distress on Tuesday, but some occupants ignored the crack before its eventual collapse on Friday, 22 September 2022.
A female victim was brought out from the rubble of the building that collapsed in Lagos Friday afternoon while two adults, a male, and a female were just recovered dead. More bodies were said to have been recovered later.
Search and rescue operations are still on.
Meanwhile, the Lagos State Government said it is investigating the partial collapse of the building.
The Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Omotayo Bamgbose-Martins, said this during his visit to the site of the four-floor building, which is about 40 years old.
The Commissioner directed that the adjoining building be pulled down immediately to forestall further collapse and for safety reasons.
This was contained in a statement issued by Deputy Director, Public Affairs, Mukaila Sanusi, on Friday.
He said: “Efforts are on to rescue those who might have been trapped in the rubble.
“The Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA) and the Lagos State Materials Testing Laboratory have been directed to unravel the cause of the collapse. “The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency is leading the rescue operations.”
