Fire razes popular Apongbon market in Lagos

A fire incident has occurred at the popular Apongbon Under Bridge Market in Lagos, razing shops and properties worth millions of naira.

This has also caused panic among road users and motorists around the area in Lagos.

According to sources present at the scene, the fire started at around 4:00 am Wednesday morning.

The unfortunate incident has already caused heavy traffic on both Eko and Carter bridges as Eko bridge in particular has been heavily affected by the inferno.

Many shops which were majorly constructed with planks were destroyed in the fire.

Vehicles parked under the bridge were also reportedly razed by the inferno which enveloped a large section of the bridge.

The fire outbreak led to a gridlock on the Eko and Carter Bridge.

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) announced via a tweet that the fire outbreak has resulted in the slow movement of motorists and advised that they use alternative routes.

“Motorists who are yet to connect Eko Bridge are advised to use alternative routes such as Third-Mainland Bridge and Carter Bridge.

“Emergency Responding Agencies like Fire Service, LASEMA, LASTMA are all on ground.”

The emergency workers have also urged traders trying to salvage their goods from under the bridge to leave for their safety.
