Property worth millions of naira was razed during a fire incident at Ikate, Salem Bus Stop, Lekki, Lagos State on 12 February 2024.
Permanent Secretary, LASEMA, Dr. Olufemi Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu, said the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, LASEMA, received distress calls via its Toll-Free Emergency numbers 767/112 at 2321hrs and activated the State’s Emergency Response Plans.
“The LASEMA Response Team from Lekki Base arrived at the incident scene at 2350hrs, while the elite LASEMA Fire Unit also responded from the agency’s hub at Cappa Base.
“On arrival of the response teams, it was observed that some shanties behind an estate were engulfed by fire at the address.
“Further investigation conducted revealed that the fire came from one of the shanty rooms, and subsequently escalated to other rooms, then adjoining buildings within the estate at the location.
“No loss of life (s) at the incident scene, nor injury (s) sustained to responders because of the inferno.
“The cause of the fire could not be ascertained at the time of writing this report, Oke-Osanyintolu said.
He added that the fire has been brought under control and completely put out through the joint efforts of all responders at the incident scene.
Oke-Osanyintolu stated that those in attendance were LASEMA Response Team, the agency’s Fire Unit, Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, the Estate Fire Department, and the Nigerian Police Force.
He said that property worth a fortune was destroyed by the inferno, noting that Post-Disaster Assessment was in progress.
