FG assures NYSC of continuous support to foster Nigeria’s unity

Akpan Umoh, Uyo

The Federal Government has assured its continuous support for the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) scheme and the corps members across the country to enhance Nigeria’s unity.

The Chairman of NYSC National Governing Board, Mrs Fatima Abubakar, said this on Tuesday during a one-day visit of the Board to NYSC Orientation Camp, Ikot Itie Udung, Nsit Atai Local  Government Area of Akwa Ibom State.

Abubakar hailed the corps members for the level of discipline they have shown in the camp and urged them to maintain the standard throughout the service year.

“I’m very happy to be here today. Let me assure you of the Federal Government support to the Scheme and your welfare. From the airport where I met your State Coordinator, I knew that she is a good administrator.

“I am even happier about the recommendation I have received about this 2022 set of Corps Members in Akwa Ibom. I’m told that you are the best.

“I am told that obviously, apart from the electricity issue you have in this camp, you don’t have any major problem in this camp.

“The only thing I’m going to tell you is that, with this recommendation that you have been given by your Coordinator, please, maintain the same behaviour and discipline.

“By so doing, you will excel beyond your imaginations by the Grace of God, and many of us who are parents and grandparents will keep praying for you and hoping that you succeed in your future endeavours,” she stated.

According to Abubakar, the FG in collaboration with the state, will look into the few challenges facing the camp in the state.

Earlier in her remarks, the State Coordinator of NYSC, Mrs Chinyere Ekwe, commended the Board for visiting the NYSC camp to see things for themselves.

Ekwe informed the board that the 1, 691 2022 Batch ‘B’ Stream 1 corps  members deployed to the state were disciplined and of good behaviour.

The state coordinator said that the NYSC in the state has established a solid partnership with relevant stakeholders which include; the state government and security agencies, among others.

Ekwe, however, appealed for support on the purchase of Automative Gas Oil (AGO) which has been very expensive to ensure continuous power supply of electricity to the camp.
