The 2 Brigade, Nigerian Army, on Saturday cleaned up Nsit Ibom Council Secretariat and its environs in Akwa Ibom State as part of the Exercise Still Water programme.
Earlier, the 2 Brigade also conducted a sensitisation exercise on road safety and security to drivers and motorists operating in Itam long-distance park in Uyo.
Exercise Still Water II, which commenced in the state on Oct. 2 will last till Dec. 22 to enhance synergy and inter-agency cooperation in the state.
The Commander 2 Brigade Nigerian Army, Brig.-Gen Abubakar Wase, who led the exercise said the sensitisation campaign and the clean-up were part of Exercise Still Water II.
Wase, who was represented during the sensitisation exercise by Lt.-Col. Ezekiel Wakili, Assistant Chief of Staff in Charge of Administration and Logistics in the brigade said the drivers and motorists around the park were sensitised on dangers of drug abuse, road safety tips, and general security.
He urged drivers and all road users to adhere to road safety rules and regulations, especially as the festive season was fast approaching.
“Today, we came to Itam Park to carry out what we call a seeming exercise to educate motorists and other road users, park officials, and everyone around the park on what we have been doing so far.
“Lectures were delivered on how to use the roads and the negative effects of drug abuse and also security general
“If they can imbibe these lectures, we have given them, I believe the society will be a free place for every one of us to live in.
Responding on behalf of the Itam long-distance park officials, Mr Anietie Ekpat, said the exercise would go a long way to inculcate road discipline in the drivers.
Ekpat, who is a member of the management team of the long-distance park commended the army for sacrificing their time to come and sensitise drivers and other park users on security and road safety tips.
He assured the army and the general public that drivers using the park would continue to do their best by adhering to the speed limit and obeying all road signs and regulations to ensure safety as the festival season was fast coming.
He said, “Today, we are having Exercise Still Water being sponsored by 2 Brigade Nigerian Army in Akwa Ibom state.
“The drivers today received lectures on security, and dangers of drug abuse and they have been thought a lot about what to do, while on the road as the festive season is approaching.
“Enough sensitisation awareness has been created on drug abuse, road safety awareness, and general security.
“Since we are entering the rush period in transportation, the general advice is to adhere to all road cautions, rules, and regulations.”
