Nathan Tamarapreye

The Movement for the Survival of Izon Ethnic Nationality in the Niger Delta (MOSIEND) on Friday commiserated with families of youths allegedly killed by military at the #EndSARS protest in Lekki, Lagos State and other parts of the country, adding that Ijaws were poised to continue the fight for resource control..

National President of MOSIEND, Mr Kenedy Tonjo-West, who spoke after an emergency meeting of the group in Yenagoa, noted that the youths who died in demanding a better Nigeria were the true patriots.

He condemned the use of excessive force on the protesters as well as threats by some regional groups against the youths: he called for an investigation into the incident.

According to him, MOSIEND remains in solidarity with the victims of the #EndSARS protest, adding that it would commence activities to demand justice for the deceased youths and urged the military to bring the perpetrators to book.

“After an exhaustive deliberation and assessment of the state of the nation, the National Executive of MOSIEND joins the call for justice for these youths, who died while protesting to demand for a better country for everyone.

“We commend the International Community for speaking up against the use of force and we in solidarity with the victims will exert pressure to bring justice to them.

“We shall hold processions in their honour from Sunday at the Peace Park in Yenagoa opposite the Government House and Ijaw youths are being mobilised; the platform shall be used to amplify the voice of MOSIEND on the situation.

“Our position demanding resource control to end the neglect of Ijaw communities, is total and remains on course.

“There is a compelling need to review the current arrangement across board and we urge the federal government to be swift in implementing the demands they agreed on,” Tonjo-West said.
