DSS releases 70-year-old Mama Biafra after over 100 days in detention

Mrs Ukamaka Ejezie, popularly known as Mama Biafra, has regained her freedom after being held captive for over 100 days.

The 70-year-old woman was reportedly detained by the Directorate of State Services on May 18 for attending a court appearance in Abuja to show solidarity with Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra.

Throughout her detention, the IPOB leader repeatedly demanded her release, referring to Mrs Ejezie as his adopted mother since his parents died in 2020.

Announcing Mrs Ejezie’s release on Sunday, lawyer to the Indigenous People of Biafra, Ifeanyi Ejiofor, vowed to continue the pursuit to secure the release of ‘every prisoner of conscience.

The statement read, “I am very delighted to inform you all that Mrs Ukamaka Ejezie (Mama Biafra) has her freedom.

“She is now out of the DSS dungeon.

“Thank thee ChukwuOkike Abiama for this huge success.

“We are not relenting, every prisoner of conscience, including Our indefatigable Client, ONYENDU MAZI NNAMDI KANU will soon regain their freedom.

“We in the legal team, are doing everything legally permissible to make it happen, we are not resting on our oars at all, be assured.

“Forward ever and backwards never! We move”.
