The Commissioner of Police in Bayelsa, Mr Mike Okoli, on Wednesday said the police was on the trail of kidnappers of the mother of Secretary to Bayelsa State Government with a view to releasing her uninjured.
The police stated that it has launched manhunt for the rescue of Madam Betinah Benson and arrest of the suspects.
It would be recalled that the victim was in January 2013 abducted and freed by the Police after one week at the kidnappers’ den.
SP Assinim Butswat, Spokesman of the Police in Bayelsa who confirmed the abduction noted that the Commissioner of Police led a team of detectives to the crime scene.
“Benson, 80, was kidnapped on July 20, 2021, at about at about 2300 hours at her residence at Old Legislative Quarters, Azikoro Road, Yenagoa. The kidnappers who were dressed in military camouflage stormed the residence and kidnapped the victim to an unknown destination.
“The Commissioner of Police Bayelsa State Command CP Mike Okoli, and other detectives have visited the scene. investigation is in progress,” Butswat said.
