The Anambra State Police Command, ‘B’ Division, Awka, on Thursday paraded two brothers, who were arrested on September 22 around 9am for armed robbery in a shop at Awka.
The brothers are Chigozie Simon, 21 and Onywka Simon, 22; both reside at Kenfrank Lodge, UNIZIK Tempsite. They hail from Aguata area of the state. They are said to be undergraduate students of Paul University, Awka and the University of Nigeria, Nsukka.
The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, SP Haruna Mohammed, said the suspects forced their way into a jewelry shop at Tempsite Awka, tied the salesgirl and covered her mouth with cello tape.
According to him, the suspects threatened to stab the salesgirl on her neck if she screamed and thereafter carted away 33 wrist watches, 14 necklaces valued over N300,000 and cash a cash of N37,000.
He said, “Consequently, as the suspects were escaping, the salesgirl untied the tape and raised alarm which led to the arrest of the suspects after a hot chase.
“Exhibits recovered in their possessions include 33 wrist watches, 14 necklaces, cash sum of N37,000 and a wrap of dried leave suspected to be Cannabis Sativa following a search at their residence.
“Suspects voluntarily confessed to the crime and investigation is ongoing after which they will be brought to book.”
The command, therefore, urges the public, who were victims of similar robbery incidents to report at ‘B’ Division, Awka to enable the police conduct a discreet investigation into the matter.
