Police were reportedly shooting at the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway where students protest against the ineptitude of the Federal Government to accede to the demands of the Academic Staff Union of Universities so that they (the students) can go back to school.
The protesters, who assembled at the Sagamu-Benin Interchange area of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway via Sagamu, were met with stiff resistance from the police, who opened fire indiscriminately.
Sources said vehicles that were going to Ijebu-Ode or Benin City, were turning back while residents of the area were running for safety from all directions.
A passenger who was going to Benin told our correspondent that the vehicle he boarded also turned back to follow Ikorodu Road to Benin City, Edo State.
On Monday, the National Association of Nigerian Students, South-West zone, announced that the protest would begin along Lagos-Shagamu Expressway on Tuesday.
