Bandits set police station on fire in A’Ibom

The bandits in unregistered Toyota Sienna, on Sunday attacked Mkpatak
Police Station in the Essien Udim Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom
State, destroying parts of the building as well as office equipment.

It was learnt that the youths of the area, who resisted the hoodlums,
put out the fire to avoid its spread to other buildings.

The Divisional Police Officer, Essien Udim, who later visited the
scene, praised the quick intervention of the youths who came out in
large number to salvage the station from being completely burnt.

It was gathered that the DPO while calming down the people, said the
police are committed and steadfast to ensuring that the hoodlums who
are currently disturbing the peaceful co-existence of the people will
be brought to book.

It was also learnt that the youths of the community stationed
themselves in strategic position to resist the attack from bandits.

They also expressed satisfaction for the timely response of the DPO
and other concerned citizens of Mkpatak community.
