Ataga’s suspected killer hasn’t stepped foot in UNILAG since end of lockdown – Lecturer

Chidinma Ojukwu, the prime suspect in the murder of the chief executive officer of Super TV Usifo Ataga, has not been to the University of Lagos since the end of coronavirus-induced lockdown in 2020, a lecturer in the varsity has said.

The lecturer, who craved anonymity also said in a message sent to Qed.ng on Friday, June 25 that the university has confirmed 21-year-old Ms Ojukwu, 21 to be a student of the university with matriculation number 170912015.

“UNILAG not silent. She had been identified as a 300 level Part Time student of the Department of Mass Communications as she claimed. School records revealed that the last time she was seen physically in the school was before the lockdown and ASUU strike which forced classes to be called off.

“She didn’t participate in the online classes and didn’t write the first semester exam which held in March 2021 and she has not also been in school since this semester commenced in April. The school has no other reaction than to confirm whether or not she is a student and records show that she is a student,” the lecturer stated.

Ojukwu told the news media while being paraded at the Lagos State Police Command headquarters in Ikeja on Thursday that she and Mr Ataga, 50, were “having fun” before fight broke out.

The tragic incident occurred on June 15 at a short service apartment situated at 19, Adewale Oshin Street, Lekki Phase 1, Lagos.

Ojukwu was arrested at her father’s residence in Yaba area of Lagos on Wednesday night. Her father was also arrested.

A top police source who craved anonymity told PUNCH that Mr Ojukwu resisted his daughter’s arrest violently. “He never believed that his daughter committed any crime until Thursday,” the source said.

Mr Ojukwu is being detained at the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, Panti, Yaba.

The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu, said the UNILAG student would be arraigned at the end of investigation.
