The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU has given the Federal Government a three-week ultimatum to address its prolonged demands or risks another industrial action.
FG last year signed a memorandum of understanding with the union, promising to fulfil demands ranging from payment of earned allowances, the introduction of the UTAS platform for university workers as well as payment of revitalization fund for universities, and more.
The Senior Staff Association of the Universities and the Non-Academic Staff Union of Universities met on Monday, November 15, 2021, to deliberate the next moves over the failure of the Federal Government to meet the union’s demands.
Speaking at the University of Abuja today November 15, the National President of the Union, Professor Emmanuel Osodeke, lamented the failure of the Federal Government to attend to the needs of the union.
“We are giving the Federal Government a three-week ultimatum, if after three weeks they don’t meet our demands, we will be going on strike. We believe we have tried enough by giving them enough time,” Osodeke said.
Recall that the union had called off its nine-month-old strike in December 2020.
The Federal government is yet to respond to this threat.
