The Commander 16 Brigade of the Nigerian Army, Yenagoa, Brig. Gen. Sadisu Yakasai has urged the students of Government Science and Technical College, Swali, to shun cultism, and drug abuse and take their studies seriously.
The 16 Brigade also donated books and sports jerseys during a public speaking engagement for selected secondary schools, to commemorate the Nigerian Army Day celebration in 2023.
The commander urged them to work hard and read their books to pass their examinations and avoid drugs to achieve their goals in life.
He said that he equally graduated from a technical school, during his secondary school days before proceeding to the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA).
The commander urged the students to see the Nigerian Army as their own and endeavour to join after their secondary school or proceed to NDA.
He said that the Science and Technical College met the criteria to be chosen by the 16 Brigade of the Nigerian Army to be part of the Nigerian Army Day Celebrations.
On his part, Mr Pedro Igbudu, Principal of Government Science and Technical College Swali, commended the 16 for choosing the school for the speaking engagement, and also donating books and jerseys.
He said with what he saw today that he has changed his perception of the Nigerian Army.
The principal said the establishment of the 16 Brigade in Bayelsa, it has helped in the security of the state.
On his part, Jackson Monovie, a student of the college, commended the Nigerian Army, for choosing their school for the awareness and sensitisation.
He said that he would like to join the Nigerian Army, as he wants to be a patriotic citizen to fight and protect his country from external aggression.
