Anambra supplementary election: Soldiers allegedly shoot man to death in Ihiala LGA

Twelve Soldiers U.S. Army Soldiers share tactics and training with a little over 200 Nigerian Army Soldiers from 26th Infantry Battalion in a remote military compound four hours north of the capital in Jaji. The seven- week training includes reacting to an IED, react to an ambush, securing an objective, operations planning, etc. The training's significance cannot be underestimated. These Nigerian Soldiers may eventually use these tactics when forward-deployed to fight against the violent terrorist organization, Boko Haram. Nigerian Advanced infantry training has significant implications outside of on-the-ground tactical maneuvers. This bilateral military-to-military training carries diplomatic weight showcasing the U.S.'s commitment to its African partners and Nigeria's commitment to countering violent extremist organizations.

Soldiers patrolling Ihiala Local Government Area of Anambra State have shot a yet-to-be-identified man dead.

It was learnt that on Tuesday, soldiers from a patrol van opened fire on commuters hundreds of metres away from the LGA headquarters and one fell to the ground motionless.

After moving a short distance away, a crowd began to form around the man, prompting the soldiers to return, firing unceasingly, and sending residents running for security.

It was gathered that when reporters returned to the scene, the middle-aged man was no longer there. Multiple witnesses said he had been picked up by the soldiers.

Attempts to record the incident were futile, as soldiers forced all commuters to alight from their vehicles and raise both hands to full length.

Meanwhile, a supplementary election is currently ongoing in Ihiala LGA which was earlier suspended on Saturday owing to insecurity.
