The Akwa Ibom State University is to expel students caught in examination malpractice and cultism.
This was the verdict passed by the Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Nse Essien in a renewed effort to sustain peace on campus and ensure effective teaching and learning.
Speaking at the weekend during the 13th matriculation ceremony of 2, 890 students, comprising 1,463 males and 1,427 females at the main campus of the institution in Ikot Akpaden, Mkpat Enin Local Government Area, Prof. Essien said the matriculation oath would commit the students to the rules and regulations of the institution and formalise their admission into the university.
“I will not condone students’ involvement in cultism, examination misconducts, indecent dressing among other vices.
“In particular, cult groups and their membership are highly prohibited and any student caught operating in cult activities will be expelled. Akwa Ibom State University has zero tolerance for any form of misconduct and will not hesitate to sanction anyone found culpable,” he stated.
The VC warned the students against using social media to publish anything concerning the university without obtaining approval from the management through the registrar.
He assured them that management would continue to work round the clock to protect the lives and property of the students and charged them to be security conscious and abide by the rules and regulations of the university.
He explained that the institution has put in place good facilities, resources and machinery to provide comfort and a conducive learning environment, for sports development and worship centres to enable them to achieve their educational, recreation and spiritual goals in the university.
“Choosing Akwa Ibom State University is a clear confirmation of your confidence in our university as a citadel of excellence.
