The Nigeria Police Force, Akwa Ibom State Command has killed four-armed sea pirates in a shoot-out and recovered one W23 boat mounted with 115HP Yamaha engine, two rifles and six ammunitions.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) SP Odiko Macdon, said this in a press statement issued in Uyo and made available to newsmen on Wednesday.
According to Macdon, the operatives of the command acting on intelligence on April 13, embarked on operation along Ikang Creek, Oron, where they were confronted by sea pirates numbering about 32 on board four speed boats, armed with sophisticated weapons.
“Acting on a very credible intelligence, on April 13, 2021, Operatives of the Akwa Ibom State Marine Police, Oron, embarked on a sting operation, along Ikang Creek, Oron, where they were confronted by sea pirates numbering about 32 on board four speed boats, armed with sophisticated weapons.
“The suspects on sighting the operatives opened fire on them, during the ensuing gun battle, four suspects met their waterloo, while others escaped with three speed boats.
“Exhibits recovered from the suspects were: one W23 boat mounted with 115HP Yamaha engine, two rifles and six ammunitions,” Macdon said.
Meanwhile, the PPRO added that on March 28, responding to a distress call, operatives of ‘D’ Division Itam mobilised to Church Road where hoodlums were operating.
He said the hoodlums on sighting the operatives fired at them, and during the exchange of fire, one suspect identified as Nsikak (male) other names unknown sustained bullet wounds, while Imoh Daniel (male) was arrested.
He noted that the injured suspect was rushed to the hospital for treatment but however, gave up the ghost in the process.
Macdon stated items recovered from the hoodlums were one locally made pistol, one live cartridge, one expended cartridge, one axe, one machete and a facemask.
The PPRO stated that the Commissioner of Police, Mr Andrew Amiengheme, has assured the Akwa Ibom people that the command would continue to partner with critical stakeholders to provide adequate security across the state.
