A’Ibom govt takes over slain police escort children education

Ini Billie, Uyo

The Akwa Ibom State Government has taken over the education of the children of a police escort killed during the kidnap of Justice Joy Unwana.

Governor Umo Eno stated this during the weekend in Uyo when he received in his office, the wife and children of the slain policeman, and Justice Joy Unwana and her driver who have been rescued from the kidnappers.

Police escort to Justice Unwana, Inspector ThankGod Edet was killed while on official duty last week Monday during the kidnap of the judge and her driver along Oron-Okobo Road.

While sympathising with the widow and children of the slain Inspector of Police, Eno pledged his support and that of the state government to help with the education of the children.

He also sympathized with the driver who sustained some injuries from the incident, gave him financial assistance to pay for his medical bills and other inconveniences, and assured that the criminals would be brought to justice.

“We like to thank God for standing with us all through these operations and thank all of the security agencies for doing a good job, they worked around the clock with us, particularly the Commissioner for Internal Security and Waterways who coordinated all that, working with all the security agencies. We thank them.

“We would like to say that we will continue to do all that it takes for Akwa Ibom to remain safe under our watch. These criminals you know, are not residents of Akwa Ibom, they just come in, attack, and use the creeks.

“But I can assure them, that, either we take justice to them, or we bring them to justice. We are resolute and Akwa Ibom will continue to remain a safe state, and we will do all we can to ensure that we make that happen by the grace of God,” he stated.
