The Akwa Ibom State Government has debunked claims by Mr Akan Udofia, (whose governorship candidacy of the All Progressives Congress (APC) party was yesterday nullified by the Court) that he was instrumental in the establishment of Ibom Airline.
Udofia had claimed in one of his political meetings with stakeholders of the APC that some of the aircraft in the fleet of Ibom Airlines belonged to him.
The Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Uko Udom who debunked the claims on Tuesday in Uyo as false and fraudulent, said Ibom Air was established by Governor Udom Emmanuel, adding that the perpetrators of the false claims would be sanctioned.
“It is necessary to notify the general public and Akwa Ibom state citizens in particular that Mr Akan Udofia has no proprietary interest whatsoever in any of the aircraft in the fleet of Ibom Air. All the aircraft in the fleet were acquired directly by the airline.
“The idea of Ibom Air was conceived and executed by His Excellency, Gov Udom Emmanuel who worked with aviation consultants led by Captain Mfon Udom to nurture and sustain the operations of the airline to this day. The Airline is owned 100% by Akwa Ibom State,” he stated Ibom Air which started operations in the administration of Governor Emmanuel will soon have nine aircraft in its fleet with the acquisition of two additional A320.
