Mr Matthew Olonisaye, has assumed duty as the 20th Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Akwa Ibom State Command and asked the media to cooperate with the corps to promote its activities.
Olonisaye said this in his office in Uyo on Wednesday while taking over from the outgoing Sector Commander Mr Oga Ochi, who has been redeployed to the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) command.
Our correspondent reports that Olonisaye was a former deputy corps commander in charge of motor vehicle administration, Osogbo in Osun.
The new sector commander urged the media to continue in the enlightenment campaigns to inculcate safety habits on road users to be safety conscious.
He solicited the cooperation of all motorists and road users in the state to keep the road free from crashes.
The new commander promised to continue with the special patrol programmes of the outgoing commander in ensuring safety on the road.
“I am delighted to be here, already, the outgoing sector commander has briefed me about how he had been working here.
“The cooperation he received from members of the public, especially from the State Government. I appeal for the same support.
“All road users must be obedient to traffic rules and regulations. We must obey traffic lights and consider other road users,” Olonisaye said.
The sector commander urged drivers and vehicle owners not to patronise touts to process their driver’s license, rather they should use designated FRSC offices for the purpose.
Olonisaye said that he would work in line with the FRSC core mandate while in the state by ensuring safety on all roads and that no life is lost.
He commended Gov Udom Emmanuel and the State Government for the support accorded the sector command, promising to work with all the stakeholders to maintain safety.
The outgoing sector commander, Mr Oga Ochi, thanked the governor, the State Government and all stakeholders for the support accorded him.
Ochi solicited the same support for the new sector commander to keep the Akwa Ibom road safe.
“Today, I am precisely 10 months old in Akwa Ibom State and I want to say that because of national assignment, I have been redeployed to another place, precisely to FCT.
“Here in our midst is the new Sector Commander in charge of Akwa Ibom State, so today, being May 5, I welcome the new sector commander and I am handing over officially to him.
“I want to particularly appreciate Akwa Ibom motoring public, the peace that we have enjoyed in the state have been wonderful,” he added.
